Benefits of Trees

Trees, especially native species, are extremely beneficial to our communities. They provide a great number of benefits including beautification of your neighborhood, they provide shade in the summer and can be used as windbreaks for the winter thus decreasing energy costs.  They provide privacy, soften traffic sounds, improve air and water quality and increase property values.

The Marion County Soil & Water Conservation District promotes tree planting and preservation in the county by providing helpful information and hosting tree and shrub sales.  Below are links to helpful fact sheets on a variety of tree topics:

Sustain Wildlife with Native Plants & Trees

In 2021 the Marion County SWCD Annual Meeting speaker was renowned author Doug Tallamy, professor at the University of Delaware Department of Entomology and Wildlife Ecology.  Doug is widely known for his book Bringing Nature Home: How You Can Sustain Wildlife with Native Plants and spoke about native plants and insect interactions.  Doug especially highlighted the numerous benefits of native trees.

Tree Sales

The Marion County SWCD no longer holds tree sales.  Check with adjoining county SWCDs however, as many of them will have spring or fall tree sales.
