Map Services Available from the Marion County Soil & Water Conservation District

Aerial Photographs
The Marion County Soil and Water Conservation District has an archive of aerial photos that cover Marion County dating back a few decades. 

The aerial photos available at the office are from the following years:

• 1941

• 1956

• 1962

• 1970 – (Scale: 1:7992 or 1 in. on map = 660 ft. on the land; 8" on map = 1 mile)

• 1987 -  (Scale: 1:15840 or 1 in on the map = 1320 ft. on the land;4" on map = 1 mile)

• 1995

• 2003

• 2004

Following are examples of how aerial photographs show the land use changes in the Castleton area aerial photos:

Many companies that conduct environmental assessments take advantage of this service to help them determine the previous land use and if there may have been or whether any environmental problems from prior use possibly existed at the site , such as underground storage tanks.

Due to the large volume of requests for aerial photos, we ask that individuals call 24 hours in advance. To schedule your appointment, please contact Marilyn Hughes at (317) 780-1765.

Policies and Fees for pulling a set of aerial photos for a project (Map Pull)
Includes all years of  aerial photos. If requested, other maps can be included at no extra charge

• Map Pull By Appointment Fee- $10.00 / site  24 hour notice required

• Rush Map Pull Siting Fee- $20.00 / site  Scheduled less than 24 hou

Photocopies------------  free with Map Pull

Soil Survey Maps also available

• One site soil map sheet- No charge / site

• Soil Map (Soil Survey) for all of Marion County available on CD- $20
  (on Computer CD  in acrobat format)
